SET® ENABLES PLANNED COMPLETION IN THE GULF OF MEXICO

SUMMARY

An Operator drilling a well in the Gulf of Mexico encountered significant mud losses below 9-5/8 in. casing shoe at approximately 10,900 ft. MD (~2,000 ft. above TD). The well was planned to be completed with 7 in. production string at TD and through the 9-5/8 in. casing. Losses were initially cured with LCM pills. The well was drilled to 11,215 ft. where they once again experienced significant mud losses, which this time, were not able to be cured. In these conditions, the operator was forced to run a casing string at this depth before reaching total depth. The standard option would be running 7 in. casing at this depth, then 5-1/2 in. production string at TD.

ADDED VALUE

Instead, the decision was made to run a 7-5/8 x 9-5/8 in. SET® Openhole Liner (OHL) to cover the weaker zone in order to increase the mud weight and drill to TD. This option would allow the operator to stay on initial design and run the 7 in. production casing through the expanded 7-5/8 in. liner to TD.
